Monster Telethon, Part 1:

A High Note

Cast: Jim Henson (Kermit), Dave Goelz (Digit), Kevin Clash (Leon),

Gordon Robertson (Lindbergh), Dan Redican (Rhonda), Brian Henson (Dog).

Kermit

Hello there, and welcome to tonight's show!

Leon

Kermit, my cuz, have I got an act for you!

Kermit

Oh, well, that's very nice of you, Leon, but everything's booked for tonight. The show is complete!

Leon

Except for one thing! Rhonda, honey -- c'mere! Boy, this lady has a set of pipes you wouldn't believe!

Kermit

Uh, Leon -- I've got all the singers I need! Digit -- roll the opening!

Leon

Just show him what you can do, honey.

Kermit

What?

[ Rhonda lets out a piercing high note, which shatters most of the monitors behind them. Kermit looks at her in disbelief. ]

Rhonda

[ deep male voice: ]  Does this mean I don't get the job?

Henson

Good evening, and welcome to our show.

Dog

Woof!

Henson

Wait a second. You're not the lion.

Dog

No. I'm the Dog. I work with the Storyteller.

Henson

Oh, yeah. Later on, the Storyteller's going to tell an eerie tale called "The Soldier and Death."

[ clip of the Soldier playing cards with devils ]

Dog

That was eerie!

Henson

So, listen, where's the lion?

Dog

Your frog got him a job in front of the public library.

Henson

Well, that's strange. Kermit, is everything okay?

Kermit

Uh, don't worry, Jim. Except for a small monitor problem, I've got everything under control. Our guest stars are the Nylons, and Fozzie Bear's going to pay a visit to the Today Show.

Lindy

So, chief... how did this happen?

Kermit

Oh, well, uh... oh, I'll show you. Instant replay!

[ The earlier scene appears on one of the monitors; Kermit narrates as they watch it. ]

Kermit

See, here I am doing my introduction... and then Leon shows up with this woman, and she went --

[ On the instant replay, Rhonda hits her high note. The last remaining monitor smashes. ]

Lindy

Yup. That'll do it.

[ Cut to commercial. ]
