Tough Pigs Anthology
The Muppets Take Madison Avenue March 2002
Coffee and chow mein. Every time the Muppets make commercials -- Pepe selling Long John Silver's food, Miss Piggy pitching Lays potato chips, what have you -- some fans object that the Muppets are too pure to be soiled by mercenary consumerism. But during the decade and a half between Sam and Friends and Sesame Street, Henson and his company paid the bills and kept the company going by making nutty, thrilling, ground-breaking TV ads. This month in the Anthology, you get a sampling of some of the best. Make yourself a cup, and don't touch that dial.
Wilkins Coffee ads -- late 1950's
Kraml milk ads -- late 1950's
La Choy chow mein ads -- mid 1960's
Part Four: Another Coffee Break Wilkins Coffee ads -- late 1950's
Part Five: Tender, Meaty Richness Esskay Meats ads -- late 1950's and early 60's
Purina Dog Chow and Esskay Meats ads -- early 1960's
By the way, for people who care about this sort of thing: I have the titles for some of the commercials in the Anthology this month, but not all of them. All the titles in quotes are the actual ad titles, titles without quotes are made up.
