Announced just this past fall, The Great Conjunction: The Dark Crystal Documentary was set to explore the making and legacy of the classic Henson film, The Dark Crystal.  The filmmakers announced this week that their exploration into the world of Thra has been effectively canceled.

The following is their full message from their Facebook page:

This has been a long time coming. The team behind what would have potentially been a great documentary has decided to abandon the project.

We worked on this film for a year, receiving contributions from some incredible artists. We invested our personal time, unpaid, to explore what we believed would be a wonderful look into a film that has captured the lives of so many, and inspired even more.

The difficult part of a film like this is getting people involved. We’ve had the support and participation of quite a few people behind the scenes who worked on The Dark Crystal, yet were unable to get the ear of more of the notable participants, and The Jim Henson Company made it clear that they were not in support of our project, nor would they give their blessing, which was also a blow to us.

After a year of ongoing work, promotion and planning, we launched our campaign. We had hoped that our page likes was indicative of the support we would receive. We were sadly mistaken. We had been discussing regrouping, but for most of us here, we feel like we’ve made the film already, despite not having made the film.

Thank you all, so much, for your support and love. This page will remain, to celebrate all things Dark Crystal. We believe in the fans. We believe that the voices of the fans should be heard.

Our condolences go out to the filmmakers, and we thank you for making a valiant attempt at adding to the Dark Crystal legacy.
