A little over a year ago, we caught wind that The Jim Henson Company was considering making sequels to some of their classic films like The Dark Crystal, Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas, and Labyrinth.  We weighed the options and made some theories about whether or not sequels would be worthwhile.  One thing we didn’t consider was anything remotely close to the word “reboot”.

News hit today that the Henson Company is rebooting Labyrinth.  Nicole Perlman has been tapped to write the script.  Perlman is best known as one of the writers of Guardians of the Galaxy.  She is also writing several other screenplays for Marvel, including Captain Marvel.

No other details are available to us at this time.  But it is interesting that the news comes so soon after David Bowie’s passing.  Was this announcement planned beforehand?  Are they taking advantage of the fact that Labyrinth is back in the news?  And most importantly, if a reboot is inevitable, who could possibly fill Bowie’s shoes?

We do know this much: The film will not have the involvement of either Jim Henson or David Bowie.  Is Labyrinth really Labyrinth without those two driving forces?

Needless to say, we have mixed emotions about the announcement, though it’s far too early to consider panicking.  As always, we’ll keep on delivering the news to you as we hear it.
