muppetsnowwhite3coverHey, did you know Muppet Snow White #3 is out? You can buy it at your local comic book store right now! Well, unless you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢re reading this at 2 AM, in which case your local comic book store is probably not open. Say, I wonder if we?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve already used that joke in one of these reviews. I bet we have.

If you enjoyed Muppet Snow White #2, I think it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s safe to say you?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll enjoy Muppet Snow White #3. It opens with the Seven Dwarfs/Electric Mayhem playing a gig, and writers Jesse Blaze Snider and Patrick Storck immediately start with the fourth wall-breaking; characters address the reader and the title page even lists ?¢‚Ǩ?ìYOU?¢‚Ǩ¬ù among the stars of the story. That?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a fun little touch, because most of us have never been in a Muppet comic before, unless we happen to be Mr. Poodlepants.

Speaking of breaking things, Crazy Harry is up to no good, crouching in the shadows and preparing to blow stuff up under orders from Miss Piggy?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s evil queen. (I think. I honestly don’t remember if we actually saw that last issue. Come on, it was a whole month ago.) I was a bit surprised to see Crazy Harry commit an actual act of terrorism, and I wonder if anyone at Boom! questioned it, but then I suppose that?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s just what Harry does. Fortunately, the explosion doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t kill anyone?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ but one Muppet will die by the end of the issue! Sort of.

muppetsnowwhite3pollyIssue 3 is the most plot-heavy issue yet, and it seems like it doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t quite have the density of jokes per panel of the first two, but it moves along at a nice pace and even manages to fit in Mad Monty, Bad Polly and Clueless Morgan from Muppet Treasure Island. I like the way the writers mess with the poison apple scene, and later, the way the characters react to Spamela?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s apparent death?¢‚Ǩ¬¶ They spend some time on it, which allows for a Bunsen and Beaker bit and some commentary on the differences between the original story and the Disney version, as well as some pathos.

muppetsnowwhite3montyKermit, who was completely absent last month, enters this issue in the last few pages, and for a minute there I actually thought the story was going to end early. But then there?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a cool cliffhanger-providing twist, one that would be extremely hard to do in a Muppet movie without breaking the budget, but is realized quite effectively here by artist Shelli Paroline.

So, Kermit is the prince who?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s supposed to fall in love with Spamela, but are they really going to end a Muppet story with Kermit in the arms of someone other than Piggy? I won?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t be surprised if Prince Kermit falls for Evil Queen Piggy next issue, although I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ll be impressed if they can do it without taking them out of character. But then who will give Snow White the magical kiss of true love? Probably Pepe, who?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s really broken up about Spamela?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s ?¢‚Ǩ?ìdeath.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù Or I could be completely wrong.

Anyway, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s too bad the real brothers Grimm aren?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t alive today to read Muppet Snow White. I have a feeling they would… well, they probably wouldn’t understand a lick of it.

Oh, and by the way, Spamela looks totally weird with teeth:
