RIP Richard Dawson

Game show host Richard Dawson passed away this week at the age of 79.  While he’s best known for hosting Family Feud, we prefer to remember him for his contributions to the Muppet world.

In the late 1970s, Dawson parodied his own show Family Feud with “Family Food” on Sesame Street.  The sketch would also feature a scene in which he kissed a horse (see above).

Also in the 1970s, Dawson appeared on Dinah Shore’s talk show next to Oscar the Grouch.  According to Caroll Spinney, after a barb about Hogan’s Heroes, Dawson went on to tell a long story, which took up the remainder of Oscar’s interview time.  Bummer.

But mostly, we remember him for Family Food, which you can watch right here:
