It’s so iconic, you hardly even recognize that you’ve likely heard the work of Toots Thielemans hundreds, if not possibly thousands of times.  Does this ring a bell?

That lead harmonica?  That is the work of legendary musician Toots Thielemans.  His harmonica has been heard in thousands of episodes of Sesame Street, usually just after the theme song or during the credits.

We have learned that Thielemans has sadly passed away this week at the age of 94.  Thielemans may possibly be the most famous harmonica player in history, having played with numerous jazz legends, on movie soundtracks like The Graduate, and as a studio musician for ABC.

That’s only the tip of Toots’ iceberg, as he had a colorful and momentous career for decades.  And we are proud to remember him for his significant work on Sesame Street.
