Hey, remember when Sesame Street used to do parodies all the time? I sure do! They’ve eased up on them in the last decade because they were aimed moreso at parents who were co-viewing with their kids, who now have viewing devices of their own and are completely in control of the nonsense they watch. But, Sesame is still trying to chase those Internet points it seems, so they’re going back to what has given them viral success before – parodies on YouTube!
Over the next few weeks, we can expect to see a number of song parodies being shared on their YouTube channel and assorted music streaming places. This will culminate with a new digital album titled Parody Party, collecting these new songs and some other recent ones too that have yet to be on any previous album, which will be released on July 26.
The first song debuted this week – “Take a Bite,” a spoof of the recent Bruno Mars hit “I Just Might,” starring Cookie Monster, along with Cookie Monster, Cookie Monster, Cookie Monster, and believe it or not, Cookie Monster!
Subsequent parody videos will include spoofs of RAYE’s “Where Is My Husband!” (as “Where Is My Lovey?”), “Go for the Gold” (spoofing “Golden” from KPOP Demon Hunters), and “Got to Go” (a potty-themed interpretation of Chapple Roan’s “Hot to Go”). The existing parodies that will appear on the album include “Me Want It (But Me Wait),” “Sort It All,” and “Share It Maybe” (which features a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo by our own Joe Hennes!).
