Last year, we got some pretty awesome mashup covers of Muppets and Marvel superheroes. Little did we know it was the precursor to the Muppets invading the world of Marvel. (And this invasion’s no secret.)

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Muppet Show, Marvel Comics is releasing a one-shot special, “The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe,” this September. The comic will showcase several stories, as revealed by Marvel:
- Rowlf the Dog is kidnapped by Mojo to help launch his new streaming service! It’s the crossover no one saw coming as Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Wolverine, Emma Frost, and many more team up to save the day in this pop culture history-making adventure by Chip Zdarsky and Pete Woods.
- Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker welcome Bruce Banner and Hank Pym to Muppet Labs for a daring experiment with Gamma Rays and Pym Particles! What could go wrong? Find out in this explosive story from Kyle Starks and Mike Henderson.
- When Clea falls ill from a mystical virus and Doctor Strange doesn’t have the cure—help arrives from the unlikeliest of sources: the Swedish Chef, in this appetizing tale from Ashley Allen and Paco Medina.
- Pigs in Space meet raccoons in space! Cosmic chaos ensues when Captain Link Hogthrob, First Mate Piggy, and Dr. Julius Strangepork crash into Rocket Raccoon and Groot in an intergalactic romp by MacKenzie Cadenhead and David Baldeon.
- And more, including stories by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Adam F. Goldberg, E.J. Su and Áthila Fabbio.
The celebration continues throughout September with even more Muppet mashup covers of various Marvel titles. The dream of Thanos fighting Louis Kazagger lives on!
And because it’s a comic, it’s not complete without a number of variant covers. The standard version, illustrated by Nick Bradshaw, can be seen above, showcasing Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and Gonzo alongside such heroes as Iron Man, Captain America, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Storm, Deadpool, Wolverine, Emma Frost, and the Invisible Woman.

The cover by Humberto Ramos has Kermit hugging (or holding on for dear life to) Spider-Man.

Meanwhile, Ron Lim showcases Gonzo racing motorcycles with Ghost Rider.

Matteo Lolli keeps the Muppet Treasure Island 30th anniversary party going with a cover of the gang in their outfits from the film, while Deadpool takes over as Long John Silver. (I hope he knows the words to “Professional Pirate.” It is his only number, after all.)

And finally, for graphic design lovers, there’s a cover of the Spider-Signal mashed with Kermit the Frog’s face.
“The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe” hits comic shops everywhere September 23rd. Be sure to pre-order your copy!
