Everyone has their favorite Henson moments. I know I do. You do too. Everyone does.
In honor of the 70th anniversary of Sam and Friends and the inception of The Jim Henson Company, we are teaming up with The Jim Henson Legacy and The Museum of the Moving Image (and fans like you!) to compile the definitive list of the top 70 Greatest Moments in Henson History.
Here’s how it’ll work: You’ll submit your favorite Henson moments, and the winning moments will be revealed at a special Museum of the Moving Image compilation screening later this year.
But what, you may ask, constitutes a “Henson moment“?? A great question, and you’re so very astute for asking it. A Henson moment is anything from the full timeline of The Jim Henson Company, the Muppets, and Sesame Street. From a few brief seconds to several minutes (but not quite as long as a full episode of television – we’ve got to draw the line somewhere).
Perhaps your favorite Henson moments include a song with a celebrity guest star, a Miss Piggy karate chop, a brilliant Creature Shop effect, or the funnest comedy sketch you’ve ever seen in your entire, Muppet-loving life. Get creative, think outside the box, and look deep inside your soul – your favorite moments are in there.
These moments could come from just about anywhere. Scenes from The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and all of the feature films are up for grabs. But also any TV special, guest appearance, commercial or talk show moment. From the earliest days of Sam and Friends and the Wilkins commercials, straight through Muppets Mayhem and Back to the Rock. There’s so much great stuff from the past 70 years, and we want to hear about it all!
But what, you may ask, will you get in return for revealing your favorite Muppet moments? Another solid question, one worthy of shouting from a mountaintop. Everyone who sends us their favorite moments will be included in the credits of the final presentation. But also, we all know it’s not about the credit – it’s about sharing our love of these iconic scenes.
But what, you may ask… no, we don’t need to do this bit again, I’ll just tell you. The final selection of the top 70 moments will be deliberated and chosen by the team at The Jim Henson Legacy. And if anyone’s worthy of playing judge and jury for this event, it’s them.
