We are saddened to learn that actress Loretta Swit has passed away.
Swit is best known for her Emmy Award-winning role as Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan on the classic TV series M*A*S*H, as well as dozens of other TV and film roles. But of course, we know her best for her memorable appearance on The Muppet Show.
In The Muppet Show‘s fifth and final season, Kermit the Frog finally gets fed up with Miss Piggy’s shenanigans and fires her (in what might be Kermit’s most memorable “freak out” moment). With Piggy out of the show, Loretta Swit stepped in to take her place, notably in “Veterinarian’s Hospital” and “Pigs in Space.”
The episode ends with Swit reuniting our favorite pig and frog with a rendition of “Side by Side” and “What Would We Do Without You?”
What a joy to have a talent like Loretta Swit among those invited into the Muppet’s world. She will be missed.
