The 78th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards have just been announced, and guess what? The new Muppet Show special aired in prime time, and thus has garnered some nominations! That’s dandy!
The special is up for:
- Outstanding Production Design For A Variety Special
- Outstanding Picture Editing For Variety Programming
- Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance – Matt Vogel as Kermit the Frog
- Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded)
- Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Variety Series Or Special
- Outstanding Writing For A Variety Special
Boy, surely with all these nominations, Disney must seriously be considering doing more of these Muppet Shows, right? Right? ….right?
Now, I’m sure there are some of you out there going “Matt Vogel doesn’t do voice-over, he does the voice AND puppetry!!!!!” But, you know, after all the negativity that’s been thrown his way the last several years, it’s nice to see him validated for his performance in any way, semantics be darned.
But, will he and his Muppet cohorts take home the trophies? We’ll find out at the Emmy Awards ceremony on Monday, September 14. Until then, be thankful they’re not up against Shrinking in any category.
