The time honored tradition of watching a bunch of sponsored balloons, floats, and lip-syncing celebrities walk down a New York City street in freezing cold weather continues. But the more important part of that tradition is that the Muppets will once again be the most important part of it.
Announced on Twitter, the Muppets will open the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! We don’t yet know which Muppets, or what they’ll be doing, but it’s great to have them back for the first time in a few years. The last we saw of any Muppet Show family characters was the Kermit balloon in 2012, and the last time an actual Muppet appeared was Kermit in 2009. Welcome back, gang.
Also appearing once again will be the Sesame Street float. For those of us keeping track, this is the 43rd consecutive year of Sesame representation in the parade. That is insane and wonderful.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on Thursday, November 24th (hey, that’s Thanksgiving!) beginning at 9am EST on NBC.
