NBC Closes a Script Deal with Henson, Whatever That Means

According to Deadline.com, NBC has “closed a script deal” with the Jim Henson Company for a new primetime sitcom that would feature Henson puppets alongside human costars.  It’s called The New Nabors, and it’s about “a human family and the repercussions they encounter living next door to a family of puppets.”  One of the writers involved is John Riggi, an executive producer on 30 Rock, which sounds promising.

I can’t say I speak Hollywood talk, so I’m not sure exactly how likely it is that this thing will ever make it to series, but hey, if The Muppets is a big hit, puppets could be the next big thing.  And of course, every entertainment website is running this story with a headline that says something about “Muppets May Return to Primetime!” because they when they see the Henson Company name, they think it’s Muppets.  So it’s up to us to obnoxiously correct everyone.
