JimmydeanSinger Jimmy Dean passed away this week at the age of 81. But beyond his sausage making skills, Jimmy was best known to us Muppet fans for having Rowlf the Dog on his self-titled show from 1963-1966.

One oft-told story from that era in Muppet history is that Rowlf became so popular that he received more fan mail than Jimmy. Jimmy Dean was even given the offer to own 40% of the Muppet brand, but turned it down because he didn’t feel like he earned any of that ownership. But even if he had, the Muppets would’ve been in good hands.

Take a look at these classic videos of Rowlf on the Jimmy Dean Show, and take note of how great Jimmy and Jim Henson play off each other.
