Sesame Street Takes on Hunger

In recent years, Sesame Street has done a great job talking about some very serious issues in a series of prime time specials, helping kids understand the recession and addressing the struggles of military families.  Now (as reported by The New York Times) they’re taking on the issue of hunger with Growing Hope Against Hunger, which will air on PBS this Sunday.

There’s a new Muppet created for the special, a 7-year-old girl named Lily who meets the Sesame cast at a community garden.  From the Times report, it sounds like the producers put a lot of thought into developing Lily, especially considering we’ll probably never see her after this hour.  Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams Paisley will show up too, following in the prime time Sesame guest star footsteps of such stars as Al Roker and Katie Couric.  Check your local PBS listings for scheduling.
