Earlier today, Tough Pigs’ Joe posted video of Frank Oz’s appearance on NBC’s Today Show, as Frank and Jimmy Fallon officially unveiled the “Muppet pipes” at 30 Rockefeller Center as part of the NBC Studio Tour. Frank also made an appearance on the Nightly News with Brian Williams, and now video of that is available on the MSNBC website too. The segment from the broadcast is available for viewing, but this less-edited footage is much cooler, and even moving, as Frank recalls working with Jim Henson, Jerry Juhl, and Don Sahlin:

It’s kind of weird the way Brian Williams talks about seeing “the germ of the Muppet characters” in the pipes, isn’t it? Almost like he’s not aware that they had been making Muppets for years when they painted those things.

But that’s not all! The MSNBC site also has a clip from 1980 with Gene Shalit reporting on the then-recent rediscovery of the Muppet pipes, and discussing them with Jim himself:

Frog bless NBC for putting these clips up, and Frog bless the Muppet guys for being great.
