We are saddened to learn that George Wendt, star of the classic sitcom Cheers, has passed away.
Wendt was best known for his role as Norm on Cheers, but also made memorable appearances on Saturday Night Live, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Seinfeld. He was reliable as a character actor who felt welcome on any show, probably because that’s how we saw Norm.
In 1989, George Wendt appeared as himself in Miss Piggy’s Hollywood, which was featured as half of an episode of The Jim Henson Hour. In the special, Miss Piggy and Gonzo try to show off her many celebrity friends with unfortunate results. In this scene in particular, Miss Piggy accosts Wendt as he’s being fitted for a new suit.
We’re so grateful that George Wendt is counted among those who’ve crossed paths with the Muppets over the years, and now Miss Piggy has a great (and true!) story to tell about befriending him.
