The time has come to answer the question that has baffled mankind through the ages, namely; How many more times can I do this article series? The answer is – at least one more!

(By the way, you can see Can, What, Has, Why and Does right here!)

Over the last couple of years, I get bored at work and type in an inquisitive word before ‘Kermit’ to see what kind of weird things people are asking about our favorite frog.  Sometimes it’s about Kermit being the Pope! Sometimes it’s about Kermit beating up an anime character! Sometimes the answer is ‘Matt Vogel’!  Let’s see what today brings as I ask… ‘Is Kermit?’

1 – Is Kermit a real name?

Yes! Kermit is a real name! Though it was around for hundreds of years, it came to prominence when President Theodore Roosevelt named his son Kermit in 1889.  This Wikipedia article has a full list of famous Kermits, but maybe the second most famous Kermit to us Muppet fans is Kermit Love, puppet designer and builder who also played Willy, the hotdog vendor.

2 and 9 – Is Kermit the dog still alive?

So I’ll use this paragraph to answer this question and the final question together, as they relate to the same dog.  Jenna Marbles was a controversial YouTuber who had an Italian Greyhound, which she named Kermit.  Born in 2010, the last update I can find on Kermit was in December 2025, which stated that he was alive.  You can find more on my new website The Marbles Mindset*
*Website does not exist.

3 – Is Kermit Disney?

Kermit isn’t Disney, because Disney is Disney.  But, yes, Kermit is owned by The Walt Disney Company, after they were purchased from The Jim Henson Company in 2004. Disney spent $75 million on the franchise, and in the last 22 years, no-one online has ever complained about it or had any issue with it and everyone is super cool about it all the time always.

4 – Is Kermit the Frog left handed?

He sure is! In fact, almost all Muppets are left handed! This is because the vast majority of Muppet performers are right handed, so they use their left hand for the puppets left arm rod/arm sleeve.  Kermit plays the banjo left handed. He points at stuff left handed. He sings Happy Feet with both hands, so that’s not a relevant example. Kermit could have swapped dominant hands in 2017, because while Jim Henson and Steve Whitmire are right handed, Matt Vogel is left handed. But, oddly enough, Matt puppeteers right handed!

5 and 6 – Is Kermit the Frog part of Sesame Street?

Look, kind of? Yes? No? Both? Kermit was a mainstay on Sesame Street, appearing in a lot of sketches and songs, Sesame Street Newsflash arguably being his most famous. He did some hilarious sketches with Grover (Heeeey Froggy, baby!) and sang about his elbows. He appeared in ‘Follow That Bird’, he sang about the Caribbean, and he got frustrated about an orange. Since 2004, Kermit has only appeared on the show twice, once in an episode of Elmo’s World about frogs, and again in the 50th anniversary special, singing with Elvis Costello.  So while Kermit may no longer technically be on the show, he’ll always be a very important part of Sesame Street.

7 – Is Kermit and Miss Piggy married?

Firstly, even typing that with such poor grammar hurt my soul just a little bit. Honestly, I’ve never been able to figure out if Kermit and Piggy got married at the end of The Muppets Take Manhattan, or if it was their characters in the movie, or them as actors. It gets confusing. But I’m pretty confident in saying that if they ever were married, it wasn’t official. And they aren’t together anymore. I think. I dunno, man. It’s a puppet frog and a puppet pig. Stop making me think so hard about them.

8 – Is Kermit an Irish name?

What, because he’s green? Well, fiddle-dee-dee-potatoes and eat my Lucky Charms! This actually took me back to the Wikipedia page I mentioned way back in Question 1! What a way to bookend! It appears that Kermit is a variant of the name Kermode, which is itself a Gaelic variant of the Irish surname Mac Diarmata, which is itself a variation of the Irish name MacDermot! So, yes, it appears that Kermit is an Irish name in its heritage! Maybe THAT’S why he’s green!
