RIP Regis Philbin

We’re saddened to learn that media personality, game show host, and one of the hardest working people in show business Regis Philbin has passed away.

Philbin holds the Guinness World Record for appearing the most hours on television. That includes everything from The Joey Bishop Show to Live with Regis and Kathie Lee to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. With that much time in front of the camera, he was bound to cross paths with the Muppets a few times. And cross paths they did!

During his tenure on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee and Live with Regis and Kelly, he welcomed guests like Jim Henson, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Big Bird, and more. Miss Piggy’s appearance from 1996 is particularly hysterical, and very much worth watching right this second.

In 2000, Kermit the Frog appeared on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, as Regis Philbin hosted the star-studded event.

And of course, Regis appeared on Sesame Street‘s 25th anniversary special Stars and Street Forever, controversially showing support for Ronald Grump’s plan to knock down Sesame Street and replace it with high-end condos.

As you can see, Regis had the longest reach of any TV personality, and we’re proud to see the quality work he did with the Muppets over the years.
