For those who might not be aware, Muppets in Moscow is a book written by Natasha Lance Rogoff in 2022, detailing the troubled production of Ulitsa Sezam, the Russian co-production of Sesame Street. Now, there’s potential for the story to be told on another flat surface – the movie screen!
Variety reports that Emotion Pictures and Riley Keough and Gina Gammell’s production company Felix Culpa are looking to develop the story into a feature film. The Big Short screenwriter Charles Randolph is attached to write the script, and Sesame Workshop is attached to be part of the executive producers team.
It sounds like the film is going to be an actual “based on a true story” narrative film, rather than a documentary ala Street Gang. So, it’ll be interesting to see how that plays out and what they’ll recreate for it. I guess we’ll all find out together within the next few years!
