Remember When the Muppets Did Stuff? That was Great

Some days I catch myself thinking of all those times the Muppets did stuff.

Remember that? Remember those times?

Yeah. Those were some good times.

Remember when The Muppet Show was on the air? I mean, I wasn’t alive when it first aired, so I clearly don’t, but I can imagine it was pretty great. All those quality guest stars, fun musical numbers, silly sketches, character introductions, and such all coming to your television screen on a weekly basis for five whole years? Yeah, I bet that was great.

Remember when news of The Muppets (2011) first came out? Man, those were some of the greatest times. Everyone was so excited for this brand new era of the Muppet franchise, and us fans were all buzzing about the several movies and shows that were sure to follow. Yeah, sure was great while it lasted.

Remember when we were getting interviews on late night talks shows, not just with Piggy and Kermit, but with Fozzie, Walter, Gonzo, and Animal? Gosh, what great times.

Remember Walter? I barely do.

Remember Muppets Wizard of O-  nope, scratch that. Let’s not remember that one. Forget I said anything.

Remember when Muppets Tonight was an ongoing thing? Sure, it wasn’t the greatest per say, but hey, us Muppet fans have never been stingy and will gladly take what we are given, even if that means tolerating really dumb jokes made by Seymour and Pepe and having to live in ongoing fear that Andy and Randy will come back in a future production.

Remember when The Muppet Show season four and five came out on DVD? Oh. Wait. Never mind.

Remember when The Muppets was airing on television less than a year ago, and we had a whole season’s worth of episodes to look forward to? Great. Just such a great feeling. Short-lived, sure, but great.

Remember when the Muppets released their new Pigs in Space videos? Yeah, there were only two of them, but to have Disney come through on giving us the goods was a nice change. So great – and so recent too!

Remember when both Disneyland and Disney World had Muppet Vision 3*D for patrons to enjoy? Great times which totally does not make me think of my last trip to Disneyland where I swore loudly in front of a bunch of children when I discovered Frozen had taken my favorite part of California Adventure away from me. Great times. Totally not still bitter, Disney.

Remember when Muppets Most Wanted came out? Oh wow! The greatest!

Remember when Matt Vogel got to appear in a photo shoot with Ricky Gervais to promote Muppets Most Wanted, and we were all psyched that a puppeteer was actually getting recognition for a change? The absolute greatest!!!

Remember Gloria Estefan? I will always treasure that lil’ penguin.

Remember that feeling of knowing a new television show was in the works or a new movie was right around the corner or a new made for TV special was airing later in the year and just being so excited for new content even if it didn’t fully live up to all our expectations because, hey, any Muppets is better than no Muppets at all, and we were just thankful to live in a world where we were given new Muppet productions to enjoy? Yeah, that’s a great feeling. I sure would like to feel that great feeling again.

Aw well. Maybe someday.
