It started off as a simple sentence – “Fozzie Bear is a bear.” That was the very first thing added to Muppet Wiki back in December 2005. Since then, that sentence expanded to paragraphs to pages and beyond. Muppet Wiki has become an invaluable resource to Muppet fans and Muppet professionals alike. And as one of the site’s admin team, I’d have to say it’s pretty peachy-keen.
With the site’s 20th anniversary on the horizon, something special had to be done. So, the admin team got the idea of reaching a big milestone number of articles by December 2025. We’ve spent the last several months adding pages for whatever we could, from issues of Sesame Street Magazine to From The Balcony episode guides to times Muppets wear those fancy barrister wigs.
Well, within a few months of working and way ahead of schedule, it happened. Last night, Muppet Wiki achieved its goal of reaching 50,000 articles!
What became page #50,000? A Sesame Street “See-Me-Grow-Chart” released by Golden Books in 1984. It may seem like an unassuming choice, but for a project that’s always growing and expanding, it’s perfect for marking the occasion of reaching a lofty height.
The honor creating page #50,000 went to Danny Horn, the guy who invented Muppet Wiki (and the very website you’re reading right now!) Danny was responsible for making that first page about Fozzie Bear, so naturally, he had to get us to this huge milestone as well. He’s certainly learned how to be more thorough since 2005!
“Now what?” you may ask. Well, of course, the Wiki isn’t done yet. It’ll never be done so long as new things are discovered and the legacy of Jim Henson continues onward. Twenty years and 50,000 pages is only the beginning! A huge round of congrats of the scores of individuals whose contributions, big and small, have helped the Wiki become what it is over these two decades.
