RIP Anne Burrell

ToughPigs is saddened to learn that chef and television personality Anne Burrell has passed away at the age of 55.

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Anne was a mainstay on the Food Network, getting her start on the network as a sous chef on Iron Chef America in 2005. Three years later, she got her own series, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, which ran for nine seasons from 2008 to 2012. She also was a judge and mentor on the series Worst Cooks in America since the show’s inception in 2010. She also authored two cookbooks, Cook Like a Rock Star: 125 Recipes, Lessons, and Culinary Secrets, and Own Your Kitchen: Recipes to Inspire & Empower.

In 2017, she opened her own restaurant, Phil & Anne’s Good Time Lounge, in Brooklyn, New York. The following year, she hosted Cookie Monster for a video for Travel + Leisure magazine. Burrell prepared a cheeseburger and tater tots, which Cookie gleefully devoured along with a napkin. He also borrowed one of her catchphrases, “brown food tastes good,” to her delight.

Her brief time with Cookie Monster was joyous, and a great way to celebrate the art of cooking,
