We are extremely saddened to learn that comedy legend Catherine O’Hara has passed away.
O’Hara has far too many iconic roles to list, but you certainly know her from films like Home Alone, Beetlejuice, Waiting for Guffman, and Best in Show, as well as TV shows like Schitt’s Creek, SCTV, and most recently, The Studio.
Among those many roles, O’Hara has also crossed paths with the worlds of Jim Henson on a few occasions. Memorably, she performed the voice of “Leader,” the leader of the Lost Fraggles and alternate universe counterpart to Gobo on Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock.
Previous to that, she also performed the voice of Judith, one of the Wild Things of the Creature Shop film Where the Wild Things Are.
And while she somehow never appeared on Sesame Street, she did meet Elmo and Cookie Monster just last year at SXSW.
The sudden loss of an icon like Catherine O’Hara is certainly an emotional blow. But what a series of gifts she gave us throughout film and television. And what a joy that we got to count her among the few who had a real hand in the Henson universe.
