ToughPigs is saddened to learn that art director Jim Mahon, who worked on a number of eclectic projects for The Jim Henson Company in the 1980’s and 90’s, recently passed away at the age of 80.

Before joining Henson, Mahon worked for Hallmark, designing the first two ornaments in the “Frosty Friends” series (which is still in production as of the writing of this article). Shortly thereafter, he made the move to what was then Henson Associates, where he designed merchandise for the company, including “Muppet Magazine,” graphics for the computer game “Gelfling Adventure”, and built the unfinished project, “The Spirit of the Telephone,” from Michael K. Frith’s design. Additionally, he was part of the team that developed the look of the characters on Muppet Babies. Years later, he also helped to create the statue of Kermit the Frog as Charlie Chaplin for the Henson lot in Los Angeles.
We are grateful for all of Mahon’s creative efforts.
