We are saddened to learn that longtime Sesame Street writer Sara Compton has passed away. Compton was on the Sesame writing team from seasons 9 through 33 and wrote dozens of memorable songs for the show.

Perhaps her best known song is “We Are All Earthlings,” which is as important today as it ever was.

Another one of my favorites from Compton’s discography is “Comb Your Face,” a song that teaches kids about proper beard maintenance.

According to the Muppet Wiki, Compton wrote 64 songs for Sesame Street, so you’re bound to remember more than a few of them, including this bop about Bert and his blanket.

Gosh, what a great song.

Also according to the Muppet Wiki, Compton is credited as writer or co-writer for over 130 Sesame Street episodes and home videos, including some of the Puerto Rico episodes, the debut of Aristotle, and Big Bird at camp.

In addition to her Sesame Street work, Compton also provided content for The Electric Company, Blue’s Clues, and “Choose Your Own Adventure” books.

Sara Compton’s breadth of Sesame Street work spanned almost 25 years, and the content she created directly influenced generations of fans, many of us included. She and the music she wrote will be fondly remembered by Sesame fans everywhere and for years to come.

Thanks to James Nobes for his contribution to this article.
