This Saturday, the 3rd Annual Children’s and Family Emmy Awards took place. They ceremony featured live appearances from Mokey Fraggle and Sprocket, and retired Muppet performer Fran Brill received a big honor, but more on that later. First, the awards! Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock were up for several, and they took home several!
Sesame Street walked away with:
- Public Service Initiative: Emotional-Well Being
- Puppetry Performer: Leslie Carrara–Rudolph as Abby Cadabby & Tango
- Short Form Live Action Program: “Elmo and Jesse Remember Uncle Jack”
- Outstanding Original Song: “That’s Why We Love Nature“
- Writing for a Preschool of Children’s Series: “Can They Be Friends?“
- Directing for a Multiple Camera Live Action: “The Sign Language ABCs“
Fraggle Rock, meanwhile, was awarded “Costume Design/Styling (Puppetry Design)” and the biggie – best “Children’s or Family Viewing Series” Congrats to all involved!
But, remember when I mentioned Fran Brill earlier? Well, she came out of the ceremony with a fancy-shmancy Lifetime Achievement Award. Dave Goelz took to the stage to say some nice words about his pal, then presented a video package of Fran’s work on Sesame Street, interspersed with comments from her Sesame colleagues.
