Last night was the 4th annual Children and Family Emmy Awards, held at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. John Tartaglia, who I assume you are familiar with, served as host for the evening, tellin’ jokes and doing various costume changes. Also present during the ceremony were Frankie Cordero (with his Donkey Hodie character Purple Panda), Stephanie D’Abruzzo (with her Donkey Hodie pal Duck Duck), and Jen Barnhart (with Zoe), who helped announce winners of some categories.
Speaking of winners, Sesame Street was nominated for several awards, and here’s what they walked away with:
- Outstanding Preschool, Children’s or Family Viewing Series
- Outstanding Short Form Live Action Program: “Andrew Garfield and Elmo Explain Grief,” Sesame Workshop YouTube Channel
- Outstanding Directing for a Live Action Series: “A Trip to the Moon”
- Outstanding Puppetry Performer: Leslie Carrara-Rudolph
In addition to these awards, many long-time contributors to family entertainment were inducted into the Academy’s Gold and Silver Circles. Michael K. Frith was honored into the Gold Circle, while Alan Muroka and Rosemarie Truglio (Senior Vice President of Global Education at Sesame Workshop) were inducted into the Silver Circle.
