Several weeks ago, we learned that Sesame Street‘s partnership with HBO Max was ending, and ever since then, Sesame fans everywhere have been wondering where the show would end up.
Now we have an answer: Netflix!
Sesame Workshop made the announcement this morning on their social media pages:

“We are excited to announce that all new Sesame Street episodes are coming to Netflix worldwide along with library episodes, and new episodes will also release the same day on PBS Stations and PBS KIDS platforms in the US, preserving a 50+ year relationship.
“The support of Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting serve as a unique public-private partnership to enable Sesame Street to continue to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder.”
That’s good news all around! Sesame Street gets to continue making new episodes, Netflix will make some older episodes available, and perhaps the best part is that the show will keep its home on PBS — without the current delay! And I’m sure we’ll find out more soon about exactly which “library episodes” are included in this.

This also marks the end of an era for Sesame nerds. For a decade, we’ve been correcting people when they complain that the show is “behind a paywall” and that “HBO owns it now and they ruined it.” From now on, we’ll be spending our time correcting people when they complain that the show is “behind a paywall” and that “Netflix owns it now and they ruined it.” It’s the dawn of a new day!
