Craig Shemin’s 2022 book Sam and Friends: The Story of Jim Henson’s First TV Show was 500+ pages of incredible information about an ostensibly unknown TV progrum. Craig scrubbed through the Henson archives and brought us juicy details on every surviving episode, all the audio recordings they have, and more. You’d think there wouldn’t be any more material to exploit. Well, you’d be wrong! As wrong as all those losers on Jeopardy!
Coming up next month is The Sam and Friends Script Book, which will contain approximately 60 archival scripts from the series, which assorted annotations from Craig. Some guy named “Dave Goelz” also has written the forward. I’m not entirely familiar with his work, but the name rings a bell.
The book is set for release on September 24, 2025. Hey, that’s Jim Henson’s birthday! What an unbelievable coincidence. You can pre-order the book right now on BearManor Media’s website for the price of $32 (paperback) or $42 (hardback). But, if you’re an Eager McBeaver like I am, copies will be availible a couple of days prior at the Museum of the Moving Image as a part of their birthday celebrations for Jim, and Craig will be signing copies Sunday afternoon. Sounds like a good deal to me!
