Only two months after the previous season ended, some more new Sesame Street is right around the corner!
Season 56 will make its debut on Netflix and PBS next Monday, November 10. This season will uniquely be distributed in three batches, with this first batch consisting of only four episodes. It’s not been said when the other two batches will come, or how many episodes they’ll have, so viewers will just have to savor these for now.
They’re touting this season as “reimagined,” with 11-minute street stories focusing solely on Elmo, Abby, Grover, and Cookie Monster; the other Muppets will still be around, but far less important than they’ve been before. We’ll see how that all turns out, but it looks less and less likely that Flo Bear will be making her big comeback at this rate. They’re also going to be doing a lot more talking to the camera, apparently, and as you’ll see in the trailer, everything they do is going to have some little animation accenting it. Sure, why not.
With those four as the main focus, they’re giving them each a little more of a hook, because just liking cookies wasn’t enough I guess. Elmo will have some “imagination moments,” Cookie Monster now runs a cookie cart, Grover has a “suitycase” that allows his to take on various roles, and Abby’s garden is now full of “magical beasties” that will make you ask, “Wait, if the problem was they had too many characters already, why are they adding more?”
Oh, and of course, there is the new animated segment “Tales from 123,” where the famous brownstone building is now presented as ostensibly Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, but with Muppets. To quote myself from two paragraphs ago, sure why not. There will also be repeats of “Elmo’s World” and “Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck,” because as you might recall, they originally announced this “reimagined” season would have two, 11-minute stories per episode, and since they’ve gone back on that, they gotsta fill the time somehow.
Watch the trailer below and tune in to new episodes November 10!
