Before you get your hopes up: No, we don’t have any new information about seasons 4 and 5 of The Muppet Show on DVD. Yes, we want it too. But that’s another article for another day.
Over on Amazon, a few new items have been listed for pre-order. Those items are “special editions” of The Muppet Show seasons 1, 2, and 3. What does this mean? We don’t know. The most natural answer would be that they’re identical to the DVDs that came out years ago, repackaged to promote the new Muppets series or to celebrate the show’s 40th anniversary. But our more optimistic guess would be to prepare us for seasons 4 and 5 (I know, I said this wasn’t about those DVD sets, but a guy can hope, can’t he???).
We also hope that the new DVD printings might come with additional bonus features or a complete version of season 1 (which originally had a few edits due to music rights). Again, there’s no sign that this may be the case yet, just hopeful speculation.
Also being re-released are new printings of all four seasons of Dinosaurs, split into two double-season sets. These aren’t labeled as “special edition” on Amazon like the Muppet Show DVDs, but it’s still pretty cool that they’re getting another DVD run.
All six DVD sets have a ship date of March 15, 2016. That’s coming up in about a month and a half, so if it’s all legit, we expect to have more info soon.
And if the gods are looking favorably upon us, we’ll hope to have news about the final two seasons of The Muppet Show too. Fingers crossed, gang.
